What to expect during your asphalt roof replacement, from scheduling to post-installment cleanup.
Before We Get There
Before we arrive, there are a few things you need to know.
- Scheduling: One to a few days in advance, we’ll contact you to confirm the date for your roof replacement.
- Vehicle Access: We kindly ask homeowners to move their cars out of the garage and driveway to allow us space to place the dumpster.
- Skylights: If you are getting a skylight replaced, please clear the area underneath it inside your home to protect furniture and floors from any potential small debris falling in.
- To Stay or Go: Of course, you’re welcome to stay at home or leave for the day. There will be some loud noises, so take that into account if you work from home or have pets or small children.
Crew Arrival & Setup
Expect a busy, yet organized, start to the day.
NOTE: We always keep a close eye on the weather forecast the day before and the morning of the scheduled roof installation. The call to cancel a roof due to rain in the forecast is typically made the morning of the scheduled installation, if necessary.
Treating Your Home Like Our Own
Before installation, we set about protecting your property, laying down protection for your home and landscaping.
- Laying Tarps: Tarps are meticulously laid around the property to protect the ground where old roofing materials will be dropped.
- Using Plywood: Plywood is strategically used to protect sensitive areas, landscaping, and anything fragile around the house.
- Moving Furniture: Our team can help move furniture on any patios or porches away from the house to keep them safe.
7:30 AM – 8:00 AM Our professional installation crew arrives on site.
8:00 AM – 9:00 AM The materials are delivered, the dumpster arrives, and the crew preps the site.
The Replacement
NOTE: The total time depends on the scope of work. Most roofs are completed in one day, but you should be aware that sometimes it can take two days if the roof is larger, more complex, or if weather plays a factor.
Tear-Off
This is the removal phase, where the old roof system is stripped away.
Crews remove the old shingles, underlayment, and nails from the roof deck.
Decking Inspection and Foundation Work
A quality roof depends on a solid foundation.
The team thoroughly inspects the exposed roof deck and ensures that any rotted plywood decking is replaced to provide a sound surface for the new materials.
Installation of New Components
With a clean deck, the installation of the new roof begins:
Ice & Water Shield: Provides superior waterproofing protection.
Underlayment: Applied across the roof onto the clean roof deck.
Drip Edge: Installed along the roof edges.
Flashing: Installed around chimneys, vents, and walls to prevent leaks.
Starter Shingles: Installed along the perimeter.
Field Shingles: Installed using pneumatic nail guns for secure application.
Ridge Cap Shingles: Capping the roof to complete the weather-tight seal.
Site Cleanup
Your property will be just as clean, if not cleaner, than how we found it.
From the smallest nail to the biggest dumpster, it will all be hauled away by the end of the day.
Cleanup will include:
- Magnet Sweep: The crew performs a thorough cleanup, using a magnet to pick up any stray nails.
- Debris Check: They carefully check in the grass and garden beds for any small debris.
- Pack-up & Goodbye: The dumpster is hauled away, and the crew packs up and leaves the job site.
Quality Check & Follow-up
Our commitment to you doesn’t end when the crew leaves.
Expect a call from Steve, the President of GP Martini, sometime after the installation.
